A Heart Of Worship
(Entry Date : Aug 13th, 2010)
Scripture
Job 1:20-21 - At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother's womb and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.
Observation
In the earlier verses, Job's belongings, servants, livestock and family members were all taken away. But Job did not blamed or cursed God. He turned to God with a heart of worship. When everything is taken away from us or any worse possible scenario happened to us, we can choose to be like Job turning to God with a heart of worship and praise instead of blaming and cursing.
Application
Come before the Lord with a heart of worship and praise even when things don't turn out to be what I have expected.
Prayer
Father Lord, when things don't turn out to be what I have expected, help me Lord not to blame or complain but to come before you with worship and praise. In Jesus name, Amen!
A Grateful Heart
(Entry Date : January 24th, 2010)
Scripture
Luke 17:15-16 - One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back , praising God in a loud voice . He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him - and he was a Samaritan.
Observation
Ten lepers came to Jesus and all of them were healed . However, only one came back and thanked Jesus for healing him and he was a Samaritan. Why only one came back and thank Jesus? What about the other 9 lepers that were healed? After being healed, they forgot to come back to thank Jesus. We should have a grateful heart when someone help us or save us. This Samaritan came back to Jesus with a grateful heart, to thank Jesus for healing him.
Application
I want to learn to be grateful, to give thanks always in all circumstances. A grateful heart is a cheerful heart.
Prayer
Father God, help me to be thankful in all circumstances. Amen!
Forget The Past And Look Ahead
(Entry Date : July 12th, 2009)
Scripture
Phi 3:13 - Brothers I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it but one thing I do forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead . I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Observation
Paul was saying about the prize which is in heaven in which God has called everyone to pursue that prize. One thing to win that prize we have to forget the past and look ahead . When we keep holding on to the past, we can't win the prize. We have to press on toward the goal in which God has called everyone. We have to look ahead and continue to run the race for God. Forget whatever that hurt us in the past and move ahead. If we want to win for God we must leave behind the past and focus on God.
Application
When I look at my past, I see failure, disappointment and discouragement but when I look up towards heaven, I see hope and victory.
Prayer
Lord when my eyes is focus on You I see victory and hope but when I look at my past , I am disappointed and became discouraged . Lord help me to forget the past and look ahead so I could remain focus on You to look up when situation is bad.
The Importance Of Rest
Scripture
Mark 6:31- Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Observation
Jesus and His disciples were attending to the crowd, however Jesus finds time to rest despite His pre-occupation with the needs of the people. He told His disciples to follow him to a quiet place and get some rest. Our Lord Jesus knew the importance of rest. He chose to withdraw Himself from the demanding crowd to rest and spend solitude time with His Father. Like Jesus, we need to do the same, to spend unhurried time with our heavenly Father.
Application
Foo Yong, do not be preoccupied with things of less importance. Be at the quiet place to seek the Lord so you could find rest for your soul.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for showing me the importance of resting and spending time with you. Please remind me that I should not be too preoccupied but be engaged with the one thing that is needful, and that is to spend time with you.
